According to a US think tank, satellite images show that North Korea’s main nuclear complex is currently very active as a result of leader Kim Jong Un’s command to increase the production of nuclear material suitable for use in weapons.
According to a report from the Washington-based 38 North on Saturday, an experimental light water reactor (ELWR) at the country’s Yongbyon complex appeared to be “nearing completion” based on photographs taken on March 3 and 17.
The study stated that work on a new support structure had begun and that water discharges from the reactor’s cooling system indicated that the ELWR “is nearing a transition to operational condition.”
