Lahore: Redemption Pakistan proudly kicked off its flagship initiative, the Last Mile Fellowship Program, In collaboration with Anti-Death Penalty Asia Network (ADPAN) and European Union under the EU Global consortium against the death penalty, with a dynamic orientation session aimed at empowering a new generation of journalists to report on human rights issues from the grassroots.
Held at the office of Media Foundation 360, the orientation session brought together a diverse cohort of young journalists selected through a competitive process. The program is designed to build their capacity in investigative journalism, ethical reporting, digital security, and storytelling focused on underserved communities and marginalized voices.
“The Last Mile Fellowship is not just a learning platform it’s a movement toward bridging the gap between rights violations and public accountability through fearless journalism mainly to abolish death penalty in Pakistan,” said Aroon Arthur, Director, Redemption Pakistan, speaking at the opening session.
The orientation covered the program structure, mentorship opportunities, thematic focus areas — such as access to justice, and abolition of death penalty — and a deep dive into the principles of responsible journalism in fragile contexts.
Fellows will engage in hands-on reporting, receive mentorship from senior journalists, and produce original content that sheds light on critical but often overlooked issues at the ‘last mile’ — where policies fail to translate into protections.
Redemption Pakistan, a human rights advocacy organization, envisions this fellowship as a step toward enabling systemic change by nurturing courageous voices who report truthfully and ethically in the face of shrinking civic spaces so that Pakistan be free from Death penalty and walks towards the path of prosperity.
